Philippe Laurent is a French electronic music pioneer, composer, and multimedia artist. His music is a unique blend of influences from Italian futurists, German electronic school, pre-war French songs, and English synth-pop tunes.
Laurent's approach to art is one of research, specifically addressing people's perception of signs and symbols. He has always been open to new technologies, whether composing musical works or creating graphic designs. Laurent's music defies genre-specific categorization, incorporating influences from techno, electro, and synth-pop while sounding starkly contemporary. His music is experimental in the good sense of the term, seeking as much as it finds.
Laurent's music became popular again in the 2000s, thanks to the revival of minimal electronic music and the release of the compilation album Hot Bip on the American label Minimal Wave in 2011.
His latest works have been released on Peripheral Minimal, Girouette Records, Serendip and Schwerkraft Records.
